Transport minister Sindisiwe Chikunga says where the South African National Roads Agency is involved, they don’t expect any shoddy work and contractors are expected to do work as per the specifications.
The minister visited Limpopo province on Sunday to introduce four community development projects taken over by SANRAL, collectively worth R787 million, including the R144-million D2919 road, from Tshikanoshi to Malebitsa in Sekhukhune.
Three other projects worth R643 million will be implemented in the Mopani district to benefit residents in six villages.
Chikunga says no one has the right to approach contractors to demand anything, saying the so called ‘construction mafia’ are criminals because they cannot demand payment for work, they are not appointed for.
She also says it is in the interest of community members to ensure there are no disruptions on the projects.
