The Free State government will build approximately 160 homes for the Jagersfontein dam burst victims.
Construction of the houses is set to begin on Monday.
The Free State premier indicated if things go according to plan, the victims would be moving into their new homes before the end of the year.
The Free State government has announced it will be building approximately 160 houses for the Jagersfontein families who were displaced following a dam burst on 11 September.
Premier Sisi Ntombela said the province would be assisting the affected families with approximately 160 new homes.
Construction will commence on Monday.
Ntombela said this during the funeral service of Ralehana Aaron Mosoeu, 78, on Saturday.
Mosoeu lost his life when his home was swept away by the mudslide when the dam wall collapsed.
The premier's office confirmed two streets of the suburb were swept away, affecting 51 houses in Charlesville and 113 in Itumeleng.
A total of 186 people were taken to the Sandstone Estate in Bloemfontein, 53 to the President Hotel in Bloemfontein, and 17 were housed at a guesthouse in Fauresmith at a cost to the mine involved, while 160 people are staying with relatives.
The total number of pupils relocated to Bloemfontein is 77.
Two people are still unaccounted for, Mantele Mokhali, 50, and 70-year-old Shadrack Williams.
Ntombela told the community on Saturday four contractors would start building four show houses through alternative building technology.
The premier's office said affected residents would get an opportunity to choose a plan they preferred before the structures were built.
The project would be finished before the end of December 2022, the office said.
