Ward 2 councillor Alan Bosch said 20 other roads that need the attention of the municipality.
Overgrown vegetation, potholes, and uncollected refuse are some of the issues that are frustrating residents on Argyle Drive in Ramsgate.
One resident, John Burls, said driving this road has become a safety hazard as one cannot see oncoming traffic.
Another resident, Joubert van Schalkwyk, said the overgrown vegetation has tricked people into thinking nobody lives on the road and they end up taking prostitutes to Argyle Drive.
“We also have a problem of clean water running down the road. This problem has been going on since last year. We can see that it is clean drinking water. We have reported the problem to our councillor. He came out and saw the issues we raised. He reported the water issue to Ugu, but we are still to hear about the vegetation and the road,” they said.
Burls said their pothole problems began when Ray Nkonyeni Municipality cut around the potholes, intending to repair it, but did not fix it, so it worsened.
He said when it rains, the potholes are filled with water, which makes it difficult for motorists.
The residents said these issues need to be addressed, not because they pay rates, but because they have become an eyesore.
Ward 2 councillor Alan Bosch said he reported the water issue to Ugu, and he received a message saying that the problem has been sorted.
“With the ongoing Ray Nkonyeni Municipality strike, it is hard to report anything to the municipality. I am aware of what residents on Argyle Drive are going through. I recently went out to assess the situation. I think only after the labour strike issues such as overgrown vegetation and the roads will be attended to, and the municipality will have a lot to catch up on,” he said.
Bosch added that in his ward, it is not only Argyle Drive that has such problems.
He said about 20 other roads need the attention of the municipality.
