Capricorn District Municipality Executive Mayor Mamedupi Teffo says the handover of contractors for water projects in three villages in Lepelle Nkumpi Local Municipality, marks the start of efforts to end the water woes for over 13 000 residents.
Teffo handed over 5 contractors to start the first phase of the R350 million project which will benefit residents of Motatanyane, Makotse and Ga-Ledwaba villages and is expected to be completed in December 2025.
The project includes the equipping and electrification of 14 boreholes, construction of concrete pump houses, the installation of 800 kiloliters elevated steel tank and the construction of a 10km pipeline.
Teffo says the project, which is expected to employ about 400 locals, is part of efforts to respond to the severe water challenges in the Lepelle Nkumpi Municipality.
She further called on community members to work together with the municipality and ensure the project is completed without any vandalism or theft incidents, which were experienced in a similar project, the Mphahlele/Lebowakgomo Regional Water Scheme, currently at 96% completion.
