The City’s Urban Mobility Directorate has announced an upcoming public information day aimed at updating residents and stakeholders on essential repair work for a section of Kloof Road, which was severely damaged by a Level-9 storm in September of last year, reports Cape {town} Etc.
Community members are encouraged to attend this event to learn more about the progress, timelines and challenges of the project.
Kloof Road serves as a vital route, linking the City Bowl to the Atlantic Seaboard neighbourhoods of Camps Bay, Clifton, Bantry Bay and Sea Point.
Since 24 September 2023, the portion of the road between Kloof Nek Road and Round House Road has been closed to ensure public safety.
This decision came after the embankment supporting the road became unstable due to storm damage, rendering it unsafe for regular traffic. Further complications arose during heavy rains this past winter, causing additional slips and delaying the restoration efforts.
The public information day will be held on Thursday, 21 November from 3pm to 7pm at Camps Bay Preparatory School, located on The Drive Avenue in Camps Bay.
City officials and project managers will be available to provide insights and answer questions, allowing residents to gain a better understanding of the current situation, work already completed, and expected timelines for reopening.
Councillor Rob Quintas, mayoral committee member for Urban Mobility, expressed his support for the event.
‘I encourage residents and stakeholders to attend this information day, where they can get the latest updates on the planned repair work,’ Quintas said. ‘We’ll be sharing insights into the complexities of this project, given the road’s unique setting, and an overview of what’s been done so far. This is an ideal opportunity to engage directly with the project team and ask questions.’
The City hopes that by providing clear updates and an open forum for discussion, residents and local business owners will be well-informed and reassured about the plans to safely restore this essential route.
