The meeting aimed to discuss matters related to the road and gather feedback from these different groups.
A community meeting was held at Kyalami Estate to gather input regarding a road project and other issues that need to be tackled. The meeting involved various stakeholders, including local taxi associations, hawkers, shopping centres, estates located along the road, and businesses.
In terms of action, it appears that intergovernmental relations were involved, including entities such as Citizen Relationship and Urban Management (CRUM), Johannesburg Road Agency (JRA), City of Johannesburg Transport (COF), Gauteng Trans and Kyalami Estates.
The government in the province is currently in the process of reviewing the design for the R55 road between the race track and Blue Hills intersection. This suggests that there are plans to make improvements or changes to this section of the road.
Ward 132 councillor Annette Deppe said, “The cleanup on the west side of the R55 has already been done. The most complaints were about traffic, speeding, taxis doing u-turns and driving into oncoming traffic. The advertising trailers on the R55 and just a general lack of law enforcement by the province and the City of Joburg.”
Ward councillors will keep doing oversight on this road and hold officials accountable for the lack of enforcement.
The next meeting regarding the Kyalami Taxi Rank will take place on July 19 at 13:00 at the Kyalami Estates Clubhouse.
