Sanral engineers estimated the construction phase, to repair the partially collapsed bridge, will take about two months.
SANRAL engineers inspected the damage to the N2 bridge on November 6, estimating the construction phase could take about two months. However, the preparation steps, including tendering, design work, and sourcing parts, could extend the timeline. Here are the recommended routes for south-going traffic to follow as the bridge will remain closed until repairs have been completed.
Route option 1:
1. After the old airport, stay left and take Exit 149 onto Prospecton Road (R102).
2. Turn left at the intersection and continue along Prospecton Road for about 5km, passing the Joyner Road intersection.
3. Stay on Prospecton Road as it becomes Andrew Zondo Road.
4. Keep straight for about 4km, passing the Moss Kolnik Drive intersection.
5. After roughly 100m, turn right to rejoin the N2 south.
Alternatively
1. Turn right onto Joyner Road, continuing to Jeffels Road.
2. At the intersection, turn left onto Mfundi Mngadi Road (M35).
3. Continue for 6.6km, then turn left onto Wanda Cele Road.
4. After 650m, turn left onto Moss Kolnik Drive.
5. Follow Moss Kolnik Drive for 2.4km, then turn right onto Kingsway Road (R102).
6. Keep right, and after 100m, take the N2 south onramp.
