For the past two weeks, Chase Valley roads have been congested with mud and pavements have been rendered almost unusable due to digging on many of the roads in the area.

Councillor for the area Reggie Khanyile said the digging is the result of a long-awaited infrastructure upgrade in the area and should be welcomed. Khanyile noted the areas frequent power outages which he said was the result of the electricity infrastructure being too old.

“We are extremely excited that we managed to get Msunduzi Municipality to upgrade electricity infrastructure in Ward 25 (Chase Valley, Montrose, and Athlone).

Khanyile said the upgrade includes replacing old MV Cables and upgrades of substations.“The project of replacing Cables started in May when a Cable from Retief Primary substation to McCarthy drive Mini sub was done.

We are now in phase two where now we are replacing cable from Chatterton to English road,” Khanyile said.

The councillor said he is pleased with the job that is being done and that, once overlaying is done, rehabilitation of the area will be done.

Khanyile expects the overlaying of new cable to be finished by 30 November while cleaning and rehabilitation will still continue after that date.
