FOR those who have been part of the unfolding Felixton College story over the past 26 years, the commencement of the construction of the new Junior School campus represents a significant milestone in the school’s history.

The old structures have served the staff and pupils faithfully. But their time has passed.

‘Felixton College is now in the position – thanks to growing numbers – to invest in new, modern, and better-equipped classrooms to take us boldly into the future,’ said Council Chairman Mr Pius Masinga. Headmaster Mr Wayne Rademan – speaking at a celebratory family picnic held at the school on Wednesday evening – thanked the parents for their unwavering faith in the school’s management, leadership and Council.

More growth on the cards

But this is only Phase One in a number of exciting projects Felixton College has in the pipeline to ensure it is able to provide all that a modern school requires. Additional land adjacent to the Izingwe Sport Fields has been acquired, which will ensure that FelixtoN College has the necessary space into which it will expand.

‘Watch the transformation of our sports facilities in the near future!’ said Mr Rademan. These are certainly exciting times in Felixton College’s history.

‘It repays the faith that so many of our past pupils, teachers and stakeholders placed in the school, and offers our current ‘crew’ the promise of an exciting future based on a well-equipped foundation.’ Following his talk, the children and their parents were delighted to show their love for their old classrooms, and bid them farewell by creating beautiful murals across their walls.

It was a somewhat emotional moment for many of the Felixton College staff members, as they reminisced about beginning their teaching careers in those rooms. Some parents – who are past pupils of Felixton College themselves – saw it as the end of an era, though they were thrilled at the prospect of their children being some of the first to benefit from the brand new facilities.

The demolition of the old campus begins this week, and the junior school boys and girls have settled well into the temporary classrooms they will call home during the construction period, which is set to end in April of 2023.
