The flyover connecting the N3 westbound and N2 northbound will be closed overnight on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 10pm to 4am.

Motorists are advised to take alternate routes out of Durban from Wednesday due to a partial closure at the EB Cloete Interchange (Spaghetti Junction).

The flyover connecting the N3 westbound and N2 northbound will be closed overnight on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 10pm to 4am.

The N3 westbound is the road from Durban central towards the Pavilion, while the N2 northbound leads towards the KZN North Coast.

The South African National Roads Agency (Sanral) said the partial closures are part of the wider upgrades at the interchange and will be used to install barriers for traffic flow.

The remainder of the EB Cloete Interchange will remain fully open during these times and only one flyover will be affected.

“These closures support the ongoing work to widen and raise the bridge, a critical element of Sanral’s extensive upgrade of the EB Cloete Interchange,” said Sanral’s Eastern Region Project Engineer, Corné Roux.

The closures are as follows:

• Closure 1: Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at 10pm to Thursday, February 20, 2025, at 4am for installation of barriers.
• Closure 2: Thursday, February 20, 2025, at 10pm to Friday, February 21, 2025, at 4am for installation of barriers.
• Closure 3: Friday, February 21, 2025, at 10pm to Saturday, February 22, 2025, at 4am for final barrier installation.

If you are unable to travel out of Durban on the M4 northbound, you can make use of the below alternate route to get onto the N2 northbound:

Leaving Durban central, continue on the N3 westbound towards St James Avenue (Pavilion) Interchange;

• Take the Off Ramp;
• Turn right onto St James Avenue;
• Take the loop ramp on the left back onto the N3 towards Durban;
• On approaching EB Cloete Interchange, take the offramp to the N2 northbound (towards the North Coast).

Trucks and heavy vehicles are advised to delay trips over these times or use staging areas to minimise congestion.

“Sanral appeals to road users to note and comply with the advance warning signs and speed restrictions when travelling past the construction work zones.

“To prioritise the safety of both the construction workers and road users, the speed limit along the route is reduced during construction,” said Roux.
