While placements in schools are still ongoing, once those are complete the outstanding learners will be placed in satellite schools. 

JOHANNESBURG - The Gauteng Education Department has set aside R207 million for mobile units to create satellite schools for the 2025 intake. 

The department reported applications of over 300,000 pupils for grades 1 and 8. 

While placements in schools are still ongoing, once those are complete, the outstanding learners will be placed in satellite schools. 

The department says about 625 mobile units were procured for the construction of satellite schools. 

They will be placed in high-pressure areas with available land.

In the past three years, 20 satellite schools were built in the province. 

"We have high-pressure areas that is where we will introduce satellite schools. We have over ten satellites schools that are working or operational. In addition, we are introducing about 15 satellites schools which are going to be assisting the process to alleviate the pressure that we are experiencing as a department," said Gauteng Education Department spokesperson, Steve Mabona.

The department said it was working hard to ensure all applicants were placed in schools.
