Is the M4 northbound route open?
Finally we can drive on KZN’s M4 Tongaat River Bridge!
After extensive flood damage rendered the M4 near Ballito inaccessible, SANRAL has been working since April to get it up and running.
The closure of this road has caused major backlogs and inconveniences for residents in the area as well as those wishing to travel to the Tongaat-Zimbali area.
A latest update from KwaZulu-Natal's Department of Transport shares that the official opening will occur on the M4 Tongaat River Bridge today, 14 December 2023, at 9:30 am.
Take a look at some of the events and updates that transpired throughout the construction process of this route:
As previously reported by ECR NewsWatch, "The repair for this bridge will provide relief to nearby residents as some of them were affected by the upliftment of a waiver in the payment of uMvoti and Tongaat tolls," says spokesperson Kwanele Ncalane.
"The design for a long term, all access and improved structure will also commence to provide alternative engineering solutions and to avert similar occurrences in future."
