The Johannesburg Development Agency (JDA), on behalf of the City of Johannesburg's Health Department, is pleased to announce that the construction of the new Hikhensile Clinic on Lokologa Street, Ivory Park, Region A, is now 80% complete.E



This state-of-the-art, 2173m² healthcare facility marks a significant step in enhancing access to quality healthcare for the Ivory Park community. Once completed, the new Hikhensile Clinic will replace the old facility, providing a modern and fully equipped healthcare environment that meets the City of Johannesburg's Health Department's standards.



On-site activities and construction work are in full swing, with the following key activities underway: roof sheeting installation; paving; completion of the boundary wall; erection of the ambulance canopy structure; internal plastering and external painting.



The new R28 million Clinic will offer a comprehensive range of healthcare services featuring an acute wing, emergency wing, administrative wing, chronic wing, mother and child unit, and a spacious waiting area. The facility will include:

 



·       Entrance hall: A welcoming space that provides easy access to various sections of the clinic, ensuring smooth patient flow and accommodating scores of visitors.



·       Reception: A centrally located area where patients can check in, receive information, and be directed to the appropriate services, ensuring an organised and efficient experience.



·       Waiting area: A spacious and comfortable area designed to accommodate patients and their families as they wait for consultations or treatments, with seating arrangements that promote comfort and privacy.



·       Sixteen consultation rooms: Private rooms equipped with modern medical tools and equipment, allowing healthcare professionals to conduct thorough examinations, consultations, and treatments in a confidential environment.



·       Treatment room: A specialised room for administering various medical treatments and procedures, equipped with the necessary medical equipment and supplies to ensure patient safety and care.



·       Isolation room: A dedicated room designed to isolate and treat patients with contagious illnesses, preventing the spread of infections within the clinic.



·       Resuscitation room: A critical care room equipped with advanced life-saving equipment and supplies, designated for emergency situations where immediate medical intervention is required.



·       Rehydration rooms: Rooms equipped to provide intravenous fluids and other treatments to patients suffering from dehydration or related conditions, ensuring prompt and effective care.



·       Blood room: A specialised area for blood sampling, testing, and storage, ensuring accurate diagnostics and safe handling of blood-related procedures.



·       Linen rooms: Designated rooms for the storage and management of clean linens and medical garments, ensuring hygiene and efficiency in the clinic's operations.



·       Ablution facilities: Clean and accessible restrooms equipped with modern sanitary fixtures, ensuring patient and staff comfort and hygiene.



·       Water storage tank: A robust water storage system to ensure a reliable supply of clean water for all clinical and sanitary needs, maintaining high standards of hygiene and operational efficiency.



JDA CEO Themba Mathibe emphasised the importance of this development, stating that Hikhensile Clinic will not only improve access to essential health services but will also uplift the surrounding area by creating jobs and fostering economic growth. The JDA has previously demonstrated this commitment through projects such as the Kaalfontein Clinic, an eco-friendly facility that has significantly improved healthcare access in the region.
