Editor – A major water pipe burst in Modderfontein on January 4 and flooded Johannesburg Road.

The incident was reported at about 09:00. Johannesburg Water responded, dug up half the road and removed a pine tree which hampered their repair.

The repair was completed, the road filled in and the water was switched on by 21:00.

Is this a record? It was certainly amazing.

Now we’ll have to wait patiently for Johannesburg Road Agency to complete the road repair.

Regards, Robbie.

In response to the letter, Johannesburg Road Aggency’s HOD for regional operations Khaya Gqibitole said:

I would like to clarify the process concerning repair work following any excavation or damage within the road reserve.

As per our established procedures, any entity like Johannesburg Water needs to issue an order number for JRA to reinstate the excavated area before we can proceed with any repair work.

This order number serves as a point of payment reference, enabling JRA to receive payment for the services rendered.

Therefore, before we can initiate any repairs, the necessary order number must be issued.

JRA will be in contact with our sister entity Johannesburg Water to ensure the area is reinstated as soon as possible.

Once we receive the order number, we will be able to provide an accurate timeline for the completion of the work.

In the meantime, JRA is taking all necessary precautions to ensure the safety of both motorists and pedestrians.

The affected area will be properly barricaded and clearly marked to maintain visibility and minimize any potential risks.
