The Department of Roads and Transport Gauteng held a significant SMME meeting in Cullinan to foster local enterprise involvement in upcoming infrastructure projects on November 2.

The gathering served as a platform to introduce the scope of work related to the much-anticipated tarring of the Nooitgedacht dirt road.

Over the next year, about 5km of this road will be upgraded, resulting in enhanced infrastructure that promises to improve access and connectivity for the community.

A key takeaway from the meeting was the commitment to empower local small, medium, and micro enterprises (SMMEs) by giving them opportunities to deliver services to the main contractor overseeing the project.

Ward 100 Clr Johannes Bekker was particularly vocal about the importance of including women-owned businesses. He said empowering women entrepreneurs is vital for fostering a more diverse and resilient local economy.

By encouraging their participation, the project aims to create an inclusive environment where all parts of the community can thrive, ultimately leading to a more balanced representation in future development initiatives.
