The Road Freight Association (RFA) has expressed concern about delays at Transnet’s Pier 2 container terminal at the Durban Port.
Transnet Port Terminals issued a notice to customers on Tuesday, saying it was facing operational challenges caused by a combination of inclement weather and ongoing equipment shortages.
It is unclear when operations at the terminal will be restored.
RFA CEO Gavin Kelly says the financial and operational impact of these added delays will only be clearer later this month or in February.
“At this stage, volumes are not back to where they would be normally. We still have a bit of muted volumes flowing through the port but obviously with these equipment issues, the volumes even muted are going to be quite severely affected. It would affect anyone who is moving imports and exports through the harbour.”
