The CEO of an architectural and construction company says the dirt road from N2 to Noetzie is in an extremely poor condition and poses a safety risk.

KNYSNA NEWS - The CEO of an architectural and construction company says the poor state of the dirt road from the N2 to Noetzie and the western headlands of Knysna is putting drivers and workers' safety at risk.

Construction vehicles had to use the road to access sites on the western headlands, said the CEO, and her company was presently undertaking two projects at Pezula Private Estate, located there.

"We need to travel on this dirt road four times a day transporting our workers," she said. "The dirt road is in an extremely poor condition and poses a safety risk."

'Taking strain'

The company's workers were "taking strain" from the impact the rocky depressions and holes in the road had on the company's vehicles.

There was also a "huge amount of garbage dumped along the road", and "clean or contaminated water" constantly flowed in channels across, and alongside, it.

"It looks like you're travelling through a dump site," the CEO said.

She had asked the municipality to attend to the road "as a matter of urgency" but to date no action had been taken by them.

'Parts of it washed away'

Residents of Kanonkop in Concordia, ward 7, have made complaints about the dirt road leading to their homes from Concordia Road.

"It is difficult to drive on the road as some parts of it have washed away and in places only the middle part of the road is left," one resident said.

Vehicles had got stuck in the road after heavy rains.

He and his neighbours feared that the extremely poor state of the road would prevent ambulances from arriving at their homes in an emergency.

The municipality was asked what it intended to do about the roads and when a response is received it will be published.
