Construction on the new Club Med South Africa beach resort, which includes a hotel, luxury villas, and conference facilities, is progressing well.

The Club Med South Africa beach resort is a partnership between Club Med and the Collins Residential Consortium.

Collins Residential has completed many prime coastal developments, including the Zululami luxury Coastal Estate, Seaton, Lalela, and the Mount Edgecombe Retirement Village.

South African debt funders and equity partners, under the enterprise of Tinley Leisure, support the R2 billion project.

Chris du Toit, project director for the development, said this project showcases the power of collaboration and a shared vision.

“By combining global standards with local expertise, we are not only building a resort but also contributing to the region’s growth and development,” he said.

The resort is located in Tinley Manor near Ballito along the north coast of KwaZulu-Natal and bordered by vibrant wildlife reserves.

It is aimed at international and South African travellers, promising a blend of tranquillity and adventure.

Construction on the Club Med South Africa beach resort started in early 2024, and good progress has been made in recent months.

The scale of this development has necessitated a phased construction approach, allowing for multiple aspects of the project to advance simultaneously.

Construction adheres to the Green Building Council of South Africa’s (GBCSA) principles, targeting a 4-star GBCSA rating.

Construction is currently focused on three key areas of the resort.

  • Hotel Section: Construction has reached the first floor of the main hotel, which will boast 345 rooms. It will feature a main pool, restaurant, bar, and welcome, family, and sports areas.
  • Exclusive Collection Villas: Platforms are laid, and piling has begun for the 66 luxury villas, each offering estuary views.
  • Convention Centre and Parking: Groundwork has commenced on the conference venue, which will accommodate 500 delegates.

Olivier Perillat-Piratoine, MD of Club Med South Africa, said construction is well on track for the opening in July 2026.

The French South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FSACCI) said it was excited about the project’s progress.

FSACCI chairperson Yves Guenon said the new Club Med marks a pivotal moment for French investment in South Africa.

He said the resort is poised to be a major contributor to tourism and economic growth in the KwaZulu-Natal region.

Club Med South Africa offering

The project’s leaders said Club Med South Africa will bring its signature all-inclusive experience to South Africa.

At an all-inclusive price, guests can expect premium accommodation, gourmet meals, open bars, a wide range of land and water activities, and a dedicated kids’ club.

The kids clubs will offer tailored facilities and certified staff for children of all ages, from 4 months old.

There is also a strong focus on sport. Club Med visitors will enjoy sailing, surfing, diving, snorkelling, and a Surf School at Club Med.

There will also be padel tennis, beach rugby, beach volleyball, bocce ball fields, archery, team building activities, and a wellness centre.

The resort will offer a spa, a fitness centre with several daily classes, a yoga school and an adult-only Zen pool and bar.

The Resort Centre will offer a shopping experience and gourmet food and beverages at either the restaurant, bar or the wine corner.

In this location, entertainment, artistic performances, and live music will happen both during the daytime and evening.

“This new Club Med will join a prestigious portfolio of resorts, offering a unique bush experience through an exclusive safari lodge in Zululand,” the company said.

The Safari Lodge lies in the heart of a big five game reserve in the north of Kwazulu-Natal province.

The reserve covers over 8,623 hectares, offering a world-class safari experience suitable for families.

The 80-room lodge will be developed to Club Med standards to offer guests a dual beach and safari experience during their stay.

“Club Med South Africa promises a memorable beach and bush experience, providing guests with the opportunity to reconnect with nature and the wild,” it said.

“The resort will feature a surf-lifestyle concept for healthy beach holidays and will be shaped by art and local culture.”
