Construction on the Tzaneen Dam wall is on hold after heavy rainfall caused an overflow. Work will resume once levels stabilise.
TZANEEN – Construction on the Tzaneen Dam wall has been temporarily suspended after recent rainfall caused the dam to start overflowing on February 26.
Jacques Kruger, from the Letaba Water Users Association (LWUA), told the Herald that they need to manage the water as construction is underway near the overflow area.
“The construction has been paused until it is safe to resume work,” he said.
As of Monday, March 3, the spillage measured 24cm. Construction will not resume until the water level returns to normal, though it is unclear how long this will take. Currently, the dam level stands at 101.76%.
