The project is being spearheaded by the Gauteng Department of Education. This project forms part of the Gauteng government’s goal of building 18 schools for residents in Gauteng over the next two years.
According to the tender advertisement, construction for these schools must be completed during a period not exceeding 24 months.
The school in Mayberry Park is expected to be completed by December 2025.
The proposed school in Mayberry Park is expected to have a running track, soccer pitch, combi courts, playgrounds, and other exciting facilities.
It will also feature 55 parking bays, three blocks – one with 24 classrooms, the other two blocks with 18 and eight classrooms respectively. The contractor is Randburg-based Motheo Construction Group.
“To all the residents of Mayberry Park, Ward 94, and Albertsdal, this is a big win for our community. It is also a win for the children in our community who were forced to travel far away to get an education. The construction of this school is a relief for many in our community and I am sure parents will appreciate the effort by the Gauteng Department of Education,” said Ward 94 Clr Samantha Nair.
The Alberton Record visited the site to have a look if any work was being done. It is still in the early stages of the project.
Backhoes and trucks were on site clearing the ground and preparing to go dump the huge rubble.
Mayberry Park is one of a handful of suburbs that did not have their schools in Alberton. The construction is the school will be welcome news for many residents in the area.
